FREDERICK STUART CHURCH (AMERICAN, 1842-1924), OIL ON CANVAS, H 32", W 68", "FLAPJACKS"

"Flapjacks", depicting a small bear holding a griddle while a young lady prepares an eagerly anticipated breakfast for a crowd of adult bears was used in the December 1892 issue of Harper's Weekly. Painting hung in the Detroit Club for many years. Nameplate notes "Bequeathed by Howard Graves Meredith, 1935"


Condition:
Established in 1882, The Detroit Club is one of the nation's oldest private clubs. Located in Downtown Detroit. As viewed under UV light in the unopened frame: UV clean except for a small spot in the upper center at the edge of the painting; overall craqueure/cracking of the paint; lined.
